If I don’t want to go to gym , let’s say for certain months or years, can I freeze my membership?
Depends on your gym 😉. Better to check with them before you get a contract if that criteria is important to you.
I forgot how much I missed spaghetti ice! Spaghetti ice and cola ice are still my favourites even after trying difference ice and ice cream across the world.
U guy's nailed it. I am a new comer here in Germany from a NON-EU country, and this was exactly what i am looking for. Sehr hilfreich. Danke 🙏
For example, I am a Romanian citizen, I recently moved to Germany, I made my residence documents and tried to open an account at N26, but it does not accept the opening of the account at all, because Romania is not registered in that list of nationalities. The highlight is also the fact that Romania is in the EU and passports are not necessary in order to move freely on the territory of EU countries... but it doesn't matter, you still can't become a customer. 🧐
Yeah, that’s the current situation for Romanians. We created our tool Banky exactly for that purpose: www.simplegermany.com/banky/
Hello, excellent narration :) About the Financial means - is the restaurant part time job contract acceptable? If so, what documents need to be submitted and any specific format, any idea? Could you please clarify?
Great video. I am looking for an updated one.
We also have food traffic light markings on ready meals in the UK.
First of all thanks guys, and I have question, can I Be in trouble If I already have a room With Anmeldung in Berlin But I have to move in one moth to another one but this one has not Anmeldung ?
You need to reregister when you move.
I'm in UK and love sauerkraut. But it's hard to get real stuff. It's not fermented, it's pasteurised. Is sauerkraut in Germany properly fermented?
Reibekuchen! There is no fair without them in the Rhineland :) If made at home the sauce to use is Zuckerrübensirup which is syrup made from the sugar beet. A popular brand is Grafschafter Goldsaft from an area close to Bonn. For me, it's like: Pancakes and Maple Syrup, Reibekuchen and Zuckerrübensirup :)
Yeeees! Kirschstreusel! Leeeeecker! (Cherry crumb cake)
German National Anthem: 1) The lyrics are called "Das Lied der Deutschen" (The Song of the Germans) written by Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1841. Its first verse is NOT forbidden! The simple fact is that only the third verse is part of the national anthem which was decided after the reunification in1990 by then Bundespräsident Richard von Weizsäcker and Bundeskanzler Helmut Kohl. This followed an earlier and similar decision from 1952 by Bundespräsident Theodor Heuss and Bundeskanzler Konrad Adenauer that only the third verse may be sung at official events. Therefore it would not be illegal to sing all three verses in public. I couldn't advise it, though, because strange looks, lifted eybrows and intensive eyerolls would be the minimum reaction you should expect. 2) The national anthem of Germany today consists of the third verse of the Lied der Deutschen sung to the tune of the Austrian "Kaiserhymne" (Hymn to the Emperor) by Joseph Haydn. Often, like during the official reception of foreign state leaders, just the melody is played.
Great video again! Regarding getting rid of still functional furniture: There may also be a charity in your town that picks up things like that for free and gives or sells them at a small price (to cover their costs) to people in need. One example is the "Sozialkaufhaus" in Bonn. I think they are more specialised in complete "Haushaltsauflösungen" (termination of households), e.g. after the passing of the last tenant, but they also do single pick-ups. Incorrect disposal of cardboard: A fine by the local authorities is one thing. A public reprimand of an elderly neighbour lady in the courtyard after she saw the not-so-neatly folded box in the community container for 2-3 houses, took it out, inspected it, noticed the shipping label with your name on it and patiently waited at her bathroom window that opens to the yard in order to dress you down: That's a whole other expericence! Needless to say, my cardboard boxes haven been folded perfectly ever since! (In our municipality, there is no difference in disposing of paper and cardboard if your house has a container instead of a bin.)
Your channel is such a diamond for the RUclips community ! Keep going!
Great and very informative video
Thanks for this great video! I feel the urge to nitpick a bit, though, when I hear "there is really no unsafe area in Düsseldorf". Perhaps this has changed, and I am certainly biased and probably used to be prejudiced. But when I grew up in Neuss through the 1970s to early 2000s and lived in Düsseldorf until I moved away in 2005, I frankly would not have got off the S-Bahn station in Garath after dark. A bit like Tannenbusch in Bonn.
It’s all about perception 😉 I went to school in Tannenbusch 😉
@@simplegermany Yes, that's true! :) Though I must say I had a rater scary encounter in Tannenbusch once in broad daylight pushing my new ebike from the Stadtbahn ... Not sure that would happen in Poppelsdorf ;)
First of all, I would like to express my deep gratitude for you, you have helped me a lot with everything I need to live in Germany. An impeccable work, up to date, clear. You couldn't be better. I have a question: the exam as such, both the theoretical and the practical as well as the final exam with the examiner who grants the license are in German? You say it takes you 6 months, but how much time of your life have all? I don't have much time because of my job, but I don't want my 6 months here to expire (October) and I can't do the short process and I have to do the long one, which I think is more expensive. Another question, can I rent a car during the process, i.e., do they take away my country license until the end or at the beginning? Thank you, greetings...
Yes you can rent a car. We talk about it in this video ruclips.net/video/q7lXf2qit4M/видео.htmlsi=Mb48uoZD3GIZRLoM and there are also driving schools that do express licenses with the whole program in 2 weeks. It’s best if you talk to driving schools in your area to see what’s possible.
Return via DHL driver: Just note down the shipment ID. As soon as the courier scans the package and the data is transferred to the system - which will be at his return to the depot at the latest - you will be able to see the pickup and all subsequent checkpoints on the DHL website.
I call Germany "the land of cake!"
Great video! So helpful! Wondering I have read somewhere in case of flor (in my case it's laminate) I have some scratches from furniture and discoloration of color at few parts. Do I need to pay for that when moving out? Somewhere I read that those kind of "usage" are considered "normal usage" when person is living here for some time.
Yeah it depends on how strong the scratches are and whether they have been there before. There is definitely some normal wear and tear usage that’s ok.
I am an Indian living in Germany with my husband. I cant speak German that well but my husband does fluently. Touchwood we have not faced any racism till now. Yes people dont smile back. But thats okay. Did not feel discriminated. Just once we were not selected for a house rent even after showing interest and my husband earns really good and all documents were in place. The landlord gave a lame excuse. Otherwise its all good till now. I even wear my Indian blouses with jeans in street proudly. I dont wait for people's reaction😅 but in London I faced a brazen racism in their underground metro. Boy oh boy I will never forget that !
Thanks for sharing 💜
Ok I am an expat and live in Dusseldorf. when you say Germans take care of everything, that sounds a bit incorrect. if you take a look at Garbage bins around dusseldorf you would not see a clean picture. They are also Germans who put their garbage on the streets including ciggerets. So in my opinion, as a person who lived in Sweden and UK before, Germans at least in Dusseldorf are not properly taking care of EVERYTHING. may be taking care of SOMETHINGS
You are right, there are always exceptions and your examples are very true 😉 and as you state it depends on what your are used to and coming from. Perspective is everything 😊
What a good timing!! I'm thinking on getting a rented one myself
Hello, Iam a Doctor in India. Should I complete my German language until B2 level to get a blue card and come to Germany?
Long story short - NEVER RENT A CAR IN GERMANY!
We would disagree - rent one when you need one and just be educated on how to go about it 😉
@@simplegermany i already did. But I found out a muchhh better solution. I would buy a cheap running car (something like an old VW Polo, Opel Corsa,..) including TÜV for less than 1k. I won't care abt miles limit, beat the hell out of it, not worrying abt scratches or my friends scratching the seats! Use it for a month or 2, then just list it and resell it. Money back!! Maximum loss would be 200-300 euros. Which is wayyyy less than renting a car, anddd hassle free!! Only note is to have ADAC membership just in case something goes wrong. Most of us do have it, even for bicycle road assistance, it's like 50Euros per year. Now how about that? 🤣
Great video! One suggestion for a new video: types of car purchases. Here in Germany leasing options are more similar of what we call renting in Latinamerica but there is a bit more complicated with initial payments, some include insurance, others don’t, etc…
Recent uni graduate, my degree is comparable in Germany :) I think my best options are with the Chancenkarte (“opportunity card”) or the freelance visa (so I can get a job online in England and then just move and continue to work online). Do you think this is correct and what do you think would be the best option? Thank you so much, very helpful videos :)
We write about the freelance visa in our guide: www.simplegermany.com/freelancing-in-germany/. You can't just have a remote job elsewhere and live in Germany 😉
In Australia, this would never ever happen. Most find it difficult to separate recyclable from non recyclable, let alone defining it any further.
a la gran ....
Are you sure about the name of the insurance? isn't the Rechtsschutz responsible for paying the lawyer and the Haftpflichtversicherung useful when I damage someone's property?
Great video. I was curious to know about “Miles” car rental. Don’t know about other cites but in Berlin it’s pretty popular.
Yes, it’s a different model for short term rides. For a weekend or longer rentals it can become quite expensive though.
Does anyone knows this: if one exchanges from an EU driving licence to a German one, does it count is the trial period (probezeit) too?
Your EU license is fully valid in Germany, so no need to change. We think it should not count as Probezeit but can’t confirm.
My university has H+ status but my degree is stated as “conditionally comparable”. Does this mean I require the statement of comparability for my application? Very grateful for all the information provided on your videos and would very much appreciate your help
Thank you for all of this information! My gf and I are considering it deeply.
We are mainly considering moving mainly.
This was extremely helpful. You're advice has helped me in 2024 and for that I'm extremely thankful!
So that means if my foreign degree is Recognized by Germany I am qualified and i don't need a language test i e German or English?
What is usually more profitable in Germany: using a shared laundry room or buying a washing machine in the apartment?
Most people in Germany have their own laundry machine.
Hi, I am in Germany on jsv but i have not got any job offer yet. I am still in the process of interviews and my visa is about to expire in july end. Is it possible to extend my jsv? Also, I am an IT professional with 8 years of professional experience and there are many English IT jobs. Do i still need to provide proof of German for extending jsv / applying for chance card?
You need to speak to your Ausländerbehörde 😊
The recognition of a specific degree is quite tricky because it states that it may happen that no degrees exist for a degree type. In this case, you can use the information on the degree type, which you can find using the 'search for degree types' search mask.
Schorle ist legale Panscherei
I really enjoyed this video ❤❤
Ausgezeichnet 🙏
I enjoy this video much but i feel like this is one of the things prevents me from wanting to live in germany
that is a normal feeling, since you are not used to recycling 😉 ask yourself why you would want to move to Germany in the first place and see if that outweighs adapting to new cultural norms. If it does, go for it, if it doesn't no worries. Germany is not for everyone.
If someone from family member gets driving license recently, is there anything i have to do with the insurance company that this person can drive my car?
Yes, double check whether your car insurance limits who can drive your car. You can usually define that during your purchase. For us for example, only Jen and I are allowed to drive our car, but my dad's car anyone is allowed to drive.
@@simplegermany thank you 😊
Can I apply for ChancenKarte inside Germany. At the moment, I am in one of the European countries, my country is a visa-waiver country to enter some European countries (include Germany) and Schengen countries. Your response is greatly appreciated.
To our knowledge you can apply from any country. From abroad via the local embassy or consulate and within Germany via the local Ausländerbehörde.
@@simplegermany Thank you very much for your prompt response. So it simply means, I can fly to Germany and start lodging my application at the local Ausländerbehörde? Can I start looking for jobs once my application is lodged or do I have to wait until the granting of the ChancenKarte? Apologies for bombarding you with lots of questions. Again, many thanks in advance.
Thanks for warning to check the car. Checking a car is time consuming, especially it is difficult at night. I take a picture of the car from all sides just in case. I hope when needed those photos will be helpful somehow. So far I rented a car in hourly basis, maybe you could do video about it as well. About my experience with hourly rating: 1. They are in more locations than daily rent cars. Very convenient! 2. You pay subscription price around 5-20 euros monthly 3. You can book time, but if you bring the car earlier you will still get charged. I dont know exactly but it is around half of the regular hourly price for the unused time. 4. If you cancel booking in less than 24 hours before booking start time then the same rule applies, they charge you. If cancel it +24 hours before booking starts then you dont pay fine. 5. If your booking time is 10:00 then you can open a car around 09:55 and use that time to check the car.
Thanks for sharing! Which service do you use for the hourly rental?
@@simplegermany I registered to ShareNow but never used it. Also there is a Stadtteilauto in my town which I use frequently because its stations are close to me. I guess there is company named Cambio in Dusseldorf which is partner of Stadtteilauto.
If someone already in Germany as a asylum seeker and lived before 2.5 years in Germany and fullfill the requirements and can get this opportunity?
You need to check with your Ausländerbehörde.
Great video- I have rented to visit in Germany over the past 25+ years. Difference between USA vs Germany. In the US you an itinerary for 8 days, if you return the car earlier, will only be charged for the duration of the time you had the car. During my last visit to Germany, I had to leave after a day. The rental company Avi’s charged me for the entire duration of itinerary (9 days), and early drop off fee.
